The Belstaff Phillis ladies jacket is, for us, a totally new jacket. It is, in essence, a ladies’ version of the men’s Crosby jacket, although it has been produced in British Millerain’s matt Technical Waxed Cotton as opposed to the men’s version, which comes in a shiny material.
Technical Waxed Cotton is a fabric that has been designed by Belstaff with British Millerain to pass the latest CE regulations. It is, in effect, a waxed cotton woven with stronger, aramid-style fibres for extra strength.
And whilst the waxed cotton will deliver a degree of water resistance, it is the seam-sealed Miporex membrane inside the jacket that gives it its waterproofing qualities. CE approved, D30 armour comes fitted in the elbows and shoulders. There’s a pocket for a back protector, but it doesn’t come as standard.
Most of the other stuff on the jacket is what we’ve come to expect from Belstaff. We’re talking about a check lining, corduroy in the cuffs and collars, and adjusters at the neck, waist and sleeve ends. There’s extra reinforcement at the shoulders and elbows, and the bottom two buttons are rubber covered to avoid scratching the tank.
