Merino makes for the very best layers. And that’s because Merino wool has an extraordinarily wide range of capabilities. Because of the construction of the fibres, it wicks moisture very effectively. For similar reasons it traps a lot of air, meaning that it’s a great insulator of body heat. It can also hold a lot of moisture (sweat), without the wearer feeling wet. The weight is quite heavy, meaning that it definitely falls into the category of a mid-layer rather than a base-layer. We have not been given a weight, but our estimate is that it is equivalent to a 300 g weight in Icebreaker. It is definitely more about cold weather than about warm weather.
