For any motorcycle garment to work properly, and particularly a technical one with a waterproof membrane, the rider has to be wearing the right base- and mid-layers. Your skin has to able to breathe. This is important both in making sure you stay cool when it’s hot and in making sure you don’t cool down too quickly when it’s cold. In both scenarios, it is important that the moisture resulting from perspiration, (ladies never sweat, obviously), can wick away from the skin and escape in a vaporous form. A base-layer sits next to the skin. A mid-layer is equally important as part of the wicking process, but will also perform some kind of insulators role.
These pants from Held are a base layer. It is lightweight, nicely fitted, stretchy and comfortable; it will perform its primary function as well as any base-layer, but we have to admit that we have chosen it because it’s just a bit more colourful than most base-layers. We do get bored that most seem to come in shades of grey!
