We love Rokker. We love the guys who own the business. We love their philosophy. We love their jeans. But, truth be told, we have never been particularly mad about their gloves. They lacked any structure. They were never particularly technical. They just didnāt do it for us.
But we donāt feel quite so critical about a new glove from Rokker called the Tucson.
Okay itās still not the most exotic glove out there. There are more technical gloves on the market. There are almost certainly more comfortable gloves on the market. But the Tucson looks great, it feels like a proper motorcycle glove, it has all the protective elements you would expect and, given that itās a Rokker glove, it is pretty well priced. Like many ācoolā looking gloves, the Tucsonās styling can be traced back to Roland Sandās original Diesel glove.
The Tucsonās made entirely from goatskin. Now goat is a great leather for gloves, as itās thinner than cowhide, more supple than cowhide and stronger than cowhide. For comfort, you get areas of concertina stretch on the fingers and on the thumb; thereās a little bit at the wrist too. The knuckles are covered with a D3O-style protector. Thereās a small, foam-filled pad at the base of the palm. There are extra layers of layer down the outside of the hand and on the palm.
On the styling front, thereās padded, diamond-stitch detailing at the wrist. The wrist closes by means of a Velcro strap. The forefingers and thumbs are touchscreen sensitive.
The gloves come in a rusty brown, vintaged finish and in black. The patinated look leaves the leather a little dry so, in all honesty, we think the black gloves are a little bit softer. These gloves are pre-shaped, and are very comfortable to wear, on the bike and off. But the black version is just a little bit softer and nicer, in our view.
But what is going to make this glove so popular is that itās a Rokker glove. Rokker is, head and shoulders, the coolest brand in the motorcycle apparel world. And that makes this glove one of the coolest in the motorcycle world. Itās as simple as that.
