The Nivala 2 is what we would term a lightweight winter glove. It has a huge and impressive spec., but there are gloves that will keep your hands warmer. Often winter gloves will have a textile back with a leather palm, but the Nivala 2 is all-leather. Some people prefer this, and of course over time the leather will give. Leather is more protective, but in heavy rain leather will absorb moisture.
Not that the Nivala 2 will absorb a lot of rain, as the membrane comes courtesy of Gore-Tex. For added warmth in cold weather, you get a fleecy lining, but also Outlast. Now Outlast is more of a temperature regulator than an outright insulator, but it can be very effective, and works particularly well with heated grips.
As far as protection is concerned, there’s a D3O style protector on the main knuckle. You get small protectors also on the minor knuckles. On the palm, there’s a slider, but also a scaphoid protector.
There’s a lot going on with this glove, so it may not be immediately comfortable for all. But there are concertina stretch panels on the back of the hand and on the thumb. You get reflective banding on the fingers and at the wrist. At the wrist, there are two means of closure. A Velcro strap at the wrist, and a Velcro flap for the cuff.
The two little fingers are strapped together, Troy Bayliss style. The index fingers on both hands are touchscreen sensitive; and on the left hand you get a visor wipe.
